Series X and Series S consoles are reliable, but they have a few well-known weak points. Here’s what we see most at our Lincoln counter, and what each problem usually means.
No signal / black screen
A Series X or S that powers on with no picture usually has one of three problems: a damaged HDMI port, damaged traces under the port, or a failed ESD protection diode pack on the HDMI line. We find which one before we quote.
Turns on then off, or stuck in safe mode
Power-cycling Series S units and boot-looping consoles are often power-stage or storage faults. Safe-mode loops can be software, so we try the offline update method before recommending hardware work.
Overheating and fan noise
Dust, pet hair and failing fans are common on Series X consoles kept in closed cabinets. A cleaning often fixes it.
Older Xbox One and Xbox 360
We still service Xbox One HDMI ports, disc drives and hard drives, and Xbox 360 power and disc faults. More walkthroughs, including Xbox One water damage, are in our Repair Guides.
Repair or replace?
Board-level repair of a port or power fault keeps your console, storage and setup. Ask for a quote first; you decide after you hear the price.
